THE COMPETITION ITSELF.
The F1 in Schools Competition is an international competition in which groups of 3 - 6 students have to design and manufacture a miniature "car" out of balsa wood using CAD/CAM design tools. The cars are powered by CO2 cartridges and are attached to a track by a thin wire.  The car design must be within specific guidelines like that of an F1 race car.

Each year the world championship team receives a $1.5 million scholarship to an Engineering University in England. The program engages more than 40,000 high school students in Australia annually with industry-standard technology made available to a further 300,000 students outside the program.

Because of this students as young as 10 are designing, testing and making miniature F1™ cars capable of 80km/h.

However, it is not about fast cars. F1 in Schools is a learning program which focuses on developing long term employability skills. Students learn leadership, team building, project management, business planning, public speaking, marketing, writing and presentation skills.
Many students engaged in this program have been offered employment by industry before completing their studies, whilst others are pursued by universities with competing scholarships.
